Recently Dr. Prof. Alex Rhema Zachariah MD has been the Chief Medical Officer of the Provena United Samaritan Medical Center in Danville, Illinois, USA. (January 2008 to June 2009.

Alex and Prema love to write scriptural melodies and all the tunes are original. Bubbling Rhema Melodies are a composition of most of what has been composed with an introduction by their youngest grandchild David singing ‘It is bubbling…’

Both were saved in a ‘Billy Graham’s Evangelistic Crusade’ in 1958 when they were second year medical students. They both love the Lord. They fellowship and receive all believers every where as we are all members of the one body of Christ, the church. Because “In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others (Romans 12:5).

Physicians and Professors Alex and Prema Zachariah have four decades of professional and spiritual experiences in life sciences particularly health, healing and wholeness ministries in India, USA and other countries. As classmates they received their medical degrees in Christian Medical College, Ludhiana(CMCL), India in 1962 and continued there as faculty till they retired in 2000 and immigrated to USA. Alex Zach received his training in Medical Oncology as Eli Lilly Clinical Fellow from 1969 to 1972 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA and he obtained his Masters degree there.

In India, in CMCL he started the pioneering work in Medical Oncology in North West India. He also received Palliative Care training from Oxford, UK. He rose to become the Dean of the 110 year old CMCL and he received from the President of India B.C. Roy Research award in 1988.

Prema Zach was the first physician in India to be Board certified in Community Health and became the chair person of the Community Health Department in CMCL delivering Primary Care to a population up to 100,000.

Both the Zachariahs were involved in training over 1500 physicians and 150 post graduates, many of whom are doing professionally very well all over the world, in India, USA, Canada, UK, Australia and so on. . Alex Zach as the dean had interaction with universities in USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Holland, Geneva, Egypt and Thailand. He represented India for the World Health Organization workshop on medical education in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1989.

They both have international health and spiritual experiences in India, USA, Canada, UK, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and Korea. 

Both have undergone several leadership training programs in USA, UK and India. One of which is Haggai International Leadership Training program in Hawaii, USA in 1990.

Alex was born in Miri, Bornea, now East Malaysia during World War II.  Father MG Zachariah was a victim of the war.  Mother Mary Zachariah brought up Alex youngest, George eldest, Matthew middle; all in the "Fear of the Lord and the love of the 'Word".  Prema born to Rev. Nathaniel Barnabas and Elizabeth. Her father, a Brahmin convert, was zealous for the Lord and mother Elizabeth brought up all the four sons; Thomas, Joseph, Phillip, John and two daughters Shantha older, Prema youngest to love the Lord and the Word.

They are married for 41 years and have 3 children and 7 grand children. Alvin, Julia, Kristen and Sydney in San Francisco; Ajay, Linda, Noah, Peter and David in Bellevue, Washington; Alina, Satnam, Daniel and Sanjana  in Urbana, Illinois.
